Mackenzie McClune wanted to have slim-waist status. Which is why the 29 year old dietician was seeking out the best ab workouts she could lay her hands on.


"Turns out whittling your middle can make you look and feel like a sex goddess among mere mortals," she said slyly. "Which is one reason why I was seeking help with abdominal sculpting."

"Here's some of the cardinal rules I found that lie behind most any exercise to flatten your lower stomach. Or address those love handles even."

When looking for exercises to get washboard abs make sure you're hitting all the belly muscles not just the rectus adbominis.

Always work the lower abs first with leg lifts or reverse crunches. Or hang from a chinup bar while raising your legs to your waist. Do that for like 10 reps and see if you don't feel it.

When doing any kind of crunch don't pull on your head. Never press your chin to your chest. And always support your head with your fingers. Just support.

"Controlled smooth slow movements produce better results," McClune pointed out. "The crunches I do last a full seven seconds. It's one second up, three seconds hold, and three seconds down. Yes, I do a lot of counting when working my abs. But deliberate motion like this tires those tummy muscles faster. Of all the ways to get a flat stomach this one is critical."

Also, she added, "how showy your abs are depends on your body fat level. If you are dissatisfied with the definition use cardio to burn off the fat."
