How Many Calories Do I Burn Exercising?
Jocelyn Diehl was the company nurse for a software design company in the Midwest. Wellness was a top issue with management. So in addition to programming code, calories were also on their mind.

"It's hard to answer the question how many calories burned in a day," Diehl said, "when one doesn't know the level of activity. See what I mean? "
"If all you do is sit in front of a computer monitor and use the keyboard and mouse you probably aren't working up much of a sweat. You won't find 'clicking a mouse' on anyone's list of the right cardio workout for fat burning. As you obviously aren't burning too many calories."
Jocelyn went on, "However ask me how many calories do I burn walking and I can tell you that. If you're walking at a 2-3 mile per hour pace, you're probably burning somewhere between 240 to 320 calories an hour."

She also said that 'the calories burn' in running, or more accurately jogging at a a leisurely 7 mph, would be 900+ an hour.
"Remember, she added, "that if your goal is to lose a pound a week that's 3500 calories. So if you burn off an extra 320 calories just walking, and cut out another 200 or so from eating smart, you'll be doing what you need to do each day to keep up the pound a week rate of weight loss. "
"So is it reasonable to lose one pound a week? Absolutely. And you don't even have to worry about how many calories burned in a day now do you?," Diehl said with a smile.
