Sherry Mallo was eagerly looking for fast ways to lose inches and pounds. Her 10 year High School Reunion was just around the corner. So she was most eager to find a quick way to lose inches on your waist.


Not that she needed to get down a size 4 again. But something in the 8 range would be nice.

And yes, she knew eating cookies, even the fat free variety, wasn't the answer.

Of course 'how to lose your gut' just didn't sound very sexy. But that was really what she wanted to do. "How to lose my gut has taken over my life," she complained to her best friend Jane.

She was focus on finding out how many calories a pound of fat contains. Knowing if she knew how many calories to burn a pound of fat she'd know how hard she'd have to hit the aerobics.

"Do you know how many calories are in a pound of fat, Jane? I know how many calories my cardio routine burns off, but…"

Jane gave her the answer. 3500. That's how many calories are in a pound of fat.

Jane went on, "Glad to see you realize there is no quick way to lose inches on your waist. And that it's not necessarily smart to zero in on slashing your calorie intake by 3500 calories a week. Although that is certainly one way to go."

"No," Sherry agreed, "I realize it all boils down to burning 3500 calories. That's how many calories in a pound of fat. That's what I need to remember if I want to fit into that size 8."
