Correct Breathing When Doing Crunches
Crucial Tip: How To Do a Stomach Crunch
"When do I breath in and out during ab crunches?", Julie asked Rosemary, a trainer for Colorado Fitness.
|
"That's a good question since correct breathing when doing crunches can make a difference in your results", Rosemary replied, smiling.
"Basically you want to breath out as much of the air from your lungs on the way up as you can. You may find this is easier said than done however. Yet don't hold your breath either. You need to get oxygen to those ab muscles. Which is hard to do if you're holding your breath."
|
"What's more, if you hold your breath, your abdominal muscles are apt to acquire a rounded shape. Since the muscles will tighten and develop around the air you're holding in your belly. So that's definitely not how to do a stomach crunch!"
Good advice, Rosemary. What applies whether working your abs out on the floor, doing crunches and leg lifts on the stability ball, or engaged in ab exercises with an exercise band.
Of course if you want to take it a step beyond that - you might want to breathe in and out slowly a few times when you're "crunched up". Trying to relax all other muscles except your tummy. Breathing in and out like this will intensify the tummy muscle contraction.
While most agree there is no such thing as easy ab crunches, learning proper breathing techniques will apply more resistance to the muscle. Giving you better results faster.
