What Are Some Good Aerobic Exercises?

Last spring, as friends celebrated their pending college graduation, Danielle Beyers was working up a sweat engaged in her regular routine of fat burning exercises. "It didn't bother me. I knew I'd be coming out ahead," she said. "My wedding was in August. And I knew one of the benefits of aerobic workouts was fitting into my wedding dress and still being able to breathe. So I can't complain."


Like Danielle, many of us are looking for similar benefits of aerobic workouts too. Which leads some to ask, "What are some good aerobic exercises?"

Fair question. And smart too. Since any exercise that gets your heart rate up will help you burn off the fat.

So … if you're into a cardio work out to lose weight here are some activities you should consider.

Walking, jogging, running are a good start. Or you could do some swimming, cross-country skiing, and rowing. While jumping rope, cycling, aerobic dancing, and racket sports also count. All give you a good cardio work out to lose weight - if that's your goal. Or can just keep you fit.

The idea with aerobics is to boost your heart rate. You're shooting for 70% of your maximum heart rate. What's that? Well you can determine it by subtracting your age from 220.

So if you're 30, your suggested maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute. Which for maximum calorie burn you ideally want to sustain for at least 10-12 minutes.

Yet don't think fat burning workouts for women means exercising yourself into a lather. Yes, you should work hard enough to break a sweat during your workout. But not necessarily so hard that you can't carry on a conversation.

Anyway, you may not see a fast loss of weight this way. But stick with your aerobic routine (a.k.a. fat burning exercises) and like Danielle, you'll see a consistent weight loss. Positioning you well, if not for your wedding dress, than at least to catch the bouquet!
