Using a Beginner Ab Workout To Eliminate Belly Fat

Gail Butler was right. What she suspected was ailing her expanding belly was too many cookies and too little sweat. In her mind it was high time she sought out a useful beginner ab workout to eliminate that belly fat. And melt off some inches.

Assuming that like Gail you too are looking for free abdominal workouts let's make sure we're on the same page.


When first starting out with any of the typical flat tummy exercises, it's good to start slow. Like with 8-12 reps. That's safe for a beginner. You can always work up to two or three sets.

If you're excessively sore you over did it.

Then too don't worry if with some of these movements you never get past a dozen reps. Since more is not necessarily better. In other words quality, or doing it right, is more important than quantity here.


Working on an exercise ball may give you better results. At least that's what a study sponsored by the American Council on Exercise found.

Your abs work harder on a ball.

They extend through a bigger range of motion.

You also benefit simply by having to use your core muscles to help stay balanced on the ball.

All of those are things you don't get by doing crunches on a mat on the floor.
