"It helps," she explained, "to know that when you refer to abs you're really talking four different muscle groups."

• transverse abdominis
• the rectus abdominis
• the internal and external obliques


"Think of your ab muscles as kinda knitted together in your torso zone," Rosy went on. "Which is why when it comes to your core, you don't want to be called soft-core. Since that can lead to a sagging belly and back problems too.

"This is also why body core strength training is so important."

Tip: Conventional wisdom says not to work a muscle
group if it is still sore from your previous workout. Since
the muscles haven't fully recovered. And once again
conventional wisdom would be wrong. Studies show
there is no harm with working out if you're still sore.

Other "Rosy tips" for those looking for fast ways to lose inches and pounds around the waist would include:
• Shoot for three or four upper and lower ab workouts each week.
• The best ab workouts emphasize quality not quantity.
• When contracting your abs remember to exhale. (Takes practice.)
• Keep your shoulders on the floor and relaxed when doing
  your six pack ab workout routines. In other words avoid the
  natural tendency to tighten (or shrug) them.
