"Skipping rope is easy, cheap and it gets the job done period," Gehfeld said. "Add in a timer and you've got a trackable process that can be beneficial to your overall fitness."

Yet jump rope fitness is more than another workout craze. It works your butt, hips, thighs and calves. In fact it's one of the great glute exercises you can do at home that also covers the major muscle groups of your legs.

"To make it more challenging, Allisha added, "I like to count my total jumps for a given time period. Or between mis steps and near trips. Sometimes I'm just suck a klutz. But once I get into a rhythm things just flow."

"Even better, Gehfeld continued, "on those days when you don't think you can get a work out in, it's like jumping rope comes to the rescue!. I forget where I read it, but one fitness study somewhere found that even short bouts of intense exercising two or three times a week can boost your cardio endurance as good as more traditional aerobics routines do."

"If you doubt it, you try jumping rope fast for just 30 seconds," she challenged. "The idea is to go all out for a short burst like that, and then rest for a minute. You can repeat that burst/rest cycle four times in 10 minutes. Viola. Near instant workout using a proven jump rope exercise technique."

On days when a more leisure pace is in order skip rope exercise is just part of her total body exercise routines. That focus on abdominal exercise routines, arms and a solid lower body workout. With free weight training exercises thrown in for good measure.
