Wondering What Is the Best Cardio Workout?

Monica Lappert stood off to the side of workout area - towel draped around her neck. The hard nosed claims rep in the fraud unit of the local insurance company looked every bit the part of hard core workout queen. As she basked in the afterglow of her just completed aerobic exercise routine.

"What's that?," Monica asked between breaths. "You're wondering what is the best cardio workout? And what qualifies as an aerobic workout?"

"Well let's see. There's jogging, cross country skiing, and brisk walking. Plus biking, step aerobics, swimming. Even aerobic dancing counts."

Those are some of the more popular aerobic exercise examples," she reported with a winning smile. "All the better when you consider every one of those would qualify as free aerobic workouts too."

Great, thanks Monica.

Now when you think cardio think large muscle groups. By working them hard you force oxygen-rich blood to those energy burning muscles. What the oxygen does is help break down your fat to become a fuel source to fuel your workout. Which is the big benefit of aerobic exercises. Since they use the most energy and burn the most fat in the shortest amount of time, the large muscles are the ones to target.

Wondering about the affects of aerobic exercise on the body? There are several.

For example one added benefit you don't hear much about appears to be that after vigorous exercise your metabolic rate will stay elevated for some time. For some up to 48 hours later in some cases. Which helps you use even more calories throughout the day.

Rigorous cardiovascular exercise has also been shown to suppress appetite. Plus it can relieve stress or reduce tension that might other-wise lead to overeating.

One final plus to to any womens aerobic workout? The health benefits accrued tend to be cumulative. Which means even abbreviated aerobic workouts can help.

Ideally I like to vary my aerobic routines from day to day. So a weekly cardio workout schedule might look something like this
• Power walking on Monday.

• Tuesday a moderate kickboxing session.

• Go swimming Wednesday.

• Skip Thursday

• Friday would be intense cardio kickboxing.

• Sunday ride bike with the kids. You may find just keeping up with them is a heart challenge.
Variation, see? That's just what you can do to keep from getting bored.

Overall the idea is to pick the type of cardio you can do consistently and you find fun. That way you're more apt to stick to it. Along with aerobic exercise examples I've given you some ideas to use when looking to put together weekly cardio workout schedule
